Why Make Natural Scented Candles with Essential Oils?

Scented candles can transform a space, providing a relaxing ambiance that promotes wellbeing.

Unfortunately, shop-bought scented candles are often made with paraffin wax, synthetic fragrances and other harmful ingredients that cause irritation, allergies and air pollution. And they aren't cheap!

Making all-natural DIY candles from scratch using essential oils allows you to know exactly what ingredients are in your candles. And you get to pick the aroma and benefits – whether you want a candle with a soothing aroma, mood-boosting properties or one that boosts mental energy and helps you focus.

DIY Scented Candles: What You'll Need

You can pick up most of these ingredients from your local craft store.

To make 2 candles you'll need:

1 Cup beeswax or soy wax pellets

Smokeless cotton wicks with wick anchors

Woolzies Essential Oil set for candle-making

2 Glass jars of choice (4 oz)

Measuring cup

Wooden skewer sticks

Wooden spoon

A pot

Water

Step-by-Step Method for Making Natural Candles

Step 1: Over low-medium heat, melt the wax pellets slowly in a pot. Stir with the wooden spoon to encourage melting. CAUTION: The wax gets hot quickly so take care and always supervise children during this process.

Step 2: Once the wax has melted, it's time to add your Woolzies Essential Oil Blend to fragrance your candle. The amount of oil you add depends on how strong you want the fragrance. Woolzies blends can be used anywhere from 5% to 10%. We suggest adding about 2 teaspoons of essential oils but you can add more or less.

Add the essential oils to the wax and stir gently.

Step 3: Prepare the glass jars by fixing the wick anchors to the bottom of the jars with a little bit of wax (it acts like glue).

Step 4: Place skewer sticks horizontally across the top of the glass jars. Wrap the ends of the wicks around the center of the sticks to hold them in place.

Step 4: Gently pour the wax into each jar, leaving roughly 1/2 inch of room at the top. You may need to pour the wax in a few times to create a nice finish.

Step 5: Let the candles sit for 24 hours, until fully set. Once set, you can cut the wick down until it's about ½ inch above the wax.

Your beautiful, handmade aromatherapy candles are now ready to light! As the wax melts, the oils will vaporize and fill the air in your home with a delightful scent.
