Kids Going Back to School? Here's How Essential Oils Can Make This School Year the Best Yet

The long, lazy summer days are coming to an end, which means one thing for parents and children: A new school year is starting, and life is about to get a whole lot busier.

At Woolzies, we believe essential oils are a must-have on any back-to-school shopping list.

In this article, we'll guide you through the best essential oils for energy, focus, calm, and sleep. You'll also learn how to use them to get the most out of the school year.

1. Banish Back to School Nerves

Getting back into the school routine comes with a flurry of nerves – for children and parents – especially if your child is heading back to in-person school for the first time since the pandemic started.

Woolzies Stress Relief Blend is perfect for diffusing in the main room of your home before school. Add 3 drops to 100 ml of water in your oil diffuser and run it for 30 minutes to settle any jitters. We also suggest sending your children to school with our soothing Lavender Roll-On. Teach them to apply it to their wrists and on the back of their neck whenever they feel overwhelmed. This is effective for nervous parents too!

2. Focus with Ease

Whether sitting in a classroom, doing distance learning via Zoom, or homeschooling – getting back into a routine can be challenging. Plus, there are so many distractions these days.

Luckily, using essential oils aromatically can help with concentration and memory.

Get a small ultrasonic diffuser for your child’s bedroom desk that they can use when studying. They can add essential oils that enhance focus and stimulate mental alertness. Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Sweet Orange, Lemon, Lemongrass, Bergamot, Frankincense, or Grapefruit are some of our favorites.

This is a useful "hack" for high-school and college students who have a lot of coursework and assignments to get through every semester.

3. Keep Germs at Bay

Back to school is all fun and games until your child starts with the sniffles. Families also have the added worry of COVID-19 as many children head back to school after a year of quarantining.

The good news is, you can keep your child's immune system strong by ensuring they eat well, sleep about 9 hours per night, and stay hydrated. And essential oils can also help you keep germs at bay.

We suggest making a disinfectant spray that your child can carry in their school bag. Combine 1/2 cup water, 1 tablespoon witch hazel, 1 teaspoon jojoba oil, and 10 drops of Woolzies Germ Fighter. Keep in a small spray bottle and sanitize hands and surfaces when needed.

4. Get an Early Night

After the summer vacation, getting back into a sleep routine can be a challenge. Going to bed too late and struggling with back-to-school anxiety can lead to moodiness, fatigue, and poor focus at school.

A warm bath before bed using a blend of relaxing essential oils helps kids get to sleep peacefully. We suggest blending 1 tablespoon of almond oil with 2 drops of lavender oil and 1 drop of Roman Chamomile oil. Add this to a warm bath and let them soak for 15 minutes before bed.

Our Calming Sleep Mist is also perfect for spritzing on pillows and bedding to enhance sleep quality.

Using Essential Oils Safely with Children

Essential oils – when diffused and applied topically – are safe for kids when used correctly.

Always dilute essential oils in a carrier oil before applying to your child's skin. When diffusing oils around children, set the diffuser to run for no longer than 30 minutes and keep the room well ventilated.

These rules allow kids to reap the benefits of essential oils without the risk of irritation.
