Best Essential Oils for Anxiety

If you're struggling with the stressful physical and mental effects of anxious thinking, Woolzies essential oils can give you peace of mind.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is the result of the sympathetic nervous system being on "high alert" due to chronic stress. A racing heart, sweaty palms, tense muscles, insomnia, and loss of self-confidence are just a few of the debilitating symptoms associated with anxiety.

Family stress, financial worries, a health crisis, and pressure at work are all examples of stressful events that lead to anxiety.

This is where essential oils come to the rescue…

Do Essential Oils Help with Anxiety?

Scientific research suggests essential oils help with anxiety by inducing a sense of calm and relaxation. When inhaled, aroma molecules in essential oils bind to receptor sites in the nose and send messages to the limbic system and amygdala of the brain. These areas control emotions, stress levels, heart rate, and blood pressure.

This is why certain scents can evoke such powerful emotional reactions!

What are the Best Essential Oils for Anxiety?

Some of the best essential oils to manage anxiety and panic attacks are lavender, bergamot, Roman chamomile, rose, frankincense, sandalwood, jasmine, and basil.

Woolzies Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot is an energizing, citrusy essential oil and one of the best for boosting mood and reducing stress and anxiety.

A 2013 study on adults about to go in for minor surgery found that inhaling bergamot essential oil reduced their anxiety about the operation (1).

Woolzies Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is an incredible essential oil for relaxation and sleep, with many other uses. Many clinical studies have found that smelling the floral, earthy aroma is soothing for mind and body (2).

A 2016 study found that inhaling 3 drops of lavender essential oil every 8 hours for 1 month significantly lowered levels of stress, anxiety, and depression in postpartum women (3).

Woolzies Roman Chamomile Essential Oil

We can't talk about natural anti-anxiety hacks without mentioning an essential oil derived from the mother of all calming herbs, Roman Chamomile. This delicate, slightly sweet oil is incredibly gentle and can be used with babies and children.

Woolzies Rose Essential Oil

Rose oil – made by steam distilling delicate rose petals – has a beautiful romantic scent, promoting calm and loving feelings.

It's great for applying to the skin, as a 2009 study confirmed. Healthy volunteers noted reduced blood pressure and a lower breathing rate, as well as more calm and relaxation when using rose essential oil topically (4).

Woolzies Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense is an oil with a distinct woody, sweet aroma. It boosts emotional health, grounds the body and mind, and has stress-relieving properties.

A study looked at terminal patients receiving a gentle essential oil hand massage every day for 5 minutes with diluted frankincense, bergamot, and lavender in 1:1:1 ratio. Amazingly, it reduced pain and boosted mood! (5)

The Best Ways to Use Essential Oils for Anxiety

Diffuse our Woolzies Stress Relief blend. We suggest adding 3-5 drops of the Stress Relief Blend to an ultrasonic oil diffuser. This citrusy, calming blend is a combination of lavender, rose, vetiver, ylang ylang, bergamot, chamomile, and frankincense essential oils

Have a relaxing essential oil bath to enjoy the aromatic and topical benefits simultaneously. Try soaking in a warm bath along with 1 cup Epsom salts, 3 drops frankincense oil, 3 drops lavender oil, and 3 drops bergamot oil. These calming essential oils will center you in no time!

Making your own massage oil and performing a foot, neck, and shoulder massage on yourself is a great stress reliever. Dilute 4-6 drops of your favorite essential oils in 2 tablespoons of carrier oil – jojoba, argan, apricot, castor or almond oil – before applying topically.

TIP: Apply Woolzies Rose Essential Oil Roll-on and Lavender Roll-on to the pulse points throughout the day to remain calm and focused.

Now you know what to do the next time you are losing sleep due to anxiety! For optimal results, combine essential oil use with frequent exercise and meditation to help nip anxiety in the bud.
